'Knowing the Truth in Part, Not Right'

It is good to know God's revelation for our lives. This is the focus of the recent faculty Inservice training meeting with the Church CES coordinator Sony Deyro with the Seminary and Institute of Religion teachers from Bago Stake and La Carlota District of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As the Bible says God reveals His secret to His prophets. Is their other possibilities that revelations may be made known to man?

"If you don't have the spirit, don't teach" reminds me of my Church calling before as a teacher of Sunday School. Now, I know how it is related to our latest convention of all teachers of Seminary and Institute of Religion of Mormon Church.

S&I Pre-School Convention

Jesus said, "the words that I speak... are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63, KJV)  This is the scripture that binds the teachers of Seminary and Institute classes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in their recent teachers' convention.

Those who have been called as teachers of LDS Seminary & Institute classes have met the standard qualifications as required by the Church. They have been informed of their respective duties and responsibilities as teachers in this short convention.

How My Pupils Remember Me as Teacher 25 Years Ago

Twenty-Five years ago (sometime in 1990) my grade VI elementary school pupils in La Carlota Elementary School 1 had written some notes for me.

Those notes which as of this posting time I still have them in my possession. I have treasured them. They are a true reflections of my calling, my profession as a teacher before.

I have read them once again to reminisce those good old and even better days of my teaching job. I want to recall how my pupils regarded me as their teacher for two decades and a half ago. I know every teacher in the different parts of the world would be celebrating the World Teachers' Day on October 5 in their own unique way.

How My Sister Molds Me of What I Am Now

In my time, there was no preschool or kindergarten. A grade school children had to go through the rudiments of learning by a strict, disciplinarian teachers who looked like a tiger or a fierce animal when discipline is concerned. Children learned out of fear.

My first teacher is my eldest sister. She was 23 years old when she handled my private lesson or tutorial in writing, arithmetic, and reading when I was in grade one.

Inday Elesita, our eldest sister followed up my writing lesson at home when my mother was busy or out to market.

And Inday Sita was of no difference from those teacher I mentioned although she had no teaching experience for she just my tutor. She was too strict, too cruel. She used to hit me when I couldn't catch up what she was teaching me.

She was also a strict disciplinarian. In learning to write my name, she had to put me on top of the table which was too difficult for me to get down when I wanted too for I couldn't reach the floor. I had no choice but to do her bid. I had to write my complete several times in several pages of the pad paper with no mistake.

Writing, a Legacy from my Grade Six Teacher

My grade six class adviser had taught me the secret of writing that works and I considered it as the important skill I never ever forget. And this led me to what I am now: a successful teacher, a school principal, . No wonder why, writing becomes my passion when I was a grader.

Where is this teacher of mine now? It was almost for 49 years ago that this teacher took care of us in her class as our adviser and teacher in grade six section one.

Since we live in the same place, I used to see her early in the morning going to Church when I took a morning walk at the back of the city hall.

Alas! I came across from one of my news feeds in the Facebook recently that she has already passed away and she had been buried a year already from one of the posts I read.

I was a bit guilty then for I hadn't even made a vigil for her wake nor attended her burial for she's living within the city where I am residing. It was I know a miscommunication. No one from one of my classmates informed me.

I am referring to Miss Lilia G. Garin, my grade six class adviser sometime in 1966 in La Carlota Elementary School. She's strict when it comes to class attendance and misbehavior. But too considerate to a weakling like me who is sickly.

As a school head of Balabag Elementary School, La Carlota City, I share to them the eternal principles behind a father. This is a reminder to all of them that the coming third Sunday of the month of June is a special day. It is Father's Day.

Father is always used when we say our prayer. We address our heavenly Father for He is the great provider. Father, therefore is a divine, sacred title for that matter. It is no joke to be addressed as a father. Likewise, it should be respected in a most reverent manner.

With this special occasion for a father, I am also reminded of the eight values which my late father has taught and influenced me when he was still living. One of them is "taking time out for God".

INSET Setting Teacher's Job in Order

The DepEd Order No. 4, series of 2014 so requires for strict compliance the implementation of the new school forms for school year 2014 - 2015.

The Balabag Elementary School under its new school principal, Gil Camporazo conducted an in-service training (INSET) for its 16 teachers of which 14 are class advisers and 2 are relief teachers.

The school principal, Gil Camporazo utilized the DepEd video presentation which he compiled from the Learners Information System (LIS) website.

As required by the DepEd, the modified schools forms should be adopted for public elementary and secondary effective the end of school year 2013 - 2014. Thus, by SY 2014 - 2015, the public schools in the country are obliged to use the seven modified school forms. These forms have replaced the 15 previous forms as shown below.

Teaching Leads Me To Where I Am Now

Twenty-nine years ago today, I was overjoyed while I received my certificate of the degree of Bachelor in Elementary Education. Former La Carlota City Mayor Juancho Aguirre handed me that certificate in a red case.

I would be much happy if my late parents were also present at that time. The degree that was conferred upon me by the board of trustees of La Carlota City was the greatest expectation of my parents. I earned this through my diligence, through my industry, through my determination to equip myself of this honor in which my wife and my two kids are so proud too for I was already married while I was studying in college.

It took me a lot of perseverance, a lot of sacrifices. But above all, I know it is the Lord's will to provide for such blessings to fulfill my dream, my vocation as a teacher. My passion to teach is evident while I was a kid. I used to play a classroom teacher. I used to gather my neighbors, my relatives and used our empty wall as blackboard.I taught them writing, reading, and arithmetic The 4Rs in teaching methodology. I enjoyed and they enjoyed too. I used to cry, feel frustrated and even disgusted when they won't play with me.

ICT: CES Curriculum Enhancement

In the division of La Carlota City, the Cubay Elementary School Teachers have spent their time while their pupils are taking their semester break for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in-service training in their school.

This could be a part of their curriculum enhancement wherein they may have the skill on how to use ICT in teaching and learning for their pupils as what has been indicated in their National Competency-Based Teacher Standards-Training Needs Assessment (NCBTS-TSNA) prepared by their school head for the school plan for professional development (SPPD).

Thirteen teachers of CES inclusive of kindergarten, primary and intermediate teachers  took their precious time listening to the lecture and doing the hands-on activity as introduced by their trainor, Mr. Gilbor D. Camporazo, Junior a programmer instructor of Technological Foundation Institute (TFI) of Bago City.

Teachers' Day: Teaching Reveals Character

Teachers are most commonly revered and idolized by their pupils or students especially by the role they play while they teach. For what they are, they produce the kind of pupils of what they exemplify or practice in their life. They teach what they are. Their true character is reflected on the manner they teach their pupils.

Cubay Elementary School, my humble school in the Division of La Carlota City celebrates this day in her own unique way through the concerted efforts of the pupils, the parents, and some external stakeholders of the school. And 'teachers teach what they are' is the basis of my short message.

Teachers' Day is a special day for every teacher. It is a time dedicated to the teachers that they may be recognized for their invaluable teaching efforts, for their outstanding achievements, for their heroic deeds in molding their pupils as a better, responsive and gainful persons someday.

Going Back to My First School Teaching Assignment

After 21 years, I have the opportunity to go back to my first school teaching assignment in Caiñaman Elementary School not as a teacher nor a school principal, but as a chief examiner of the first Division Unified Test for the Grades 2 to 6 pupils of the said school. This is something to reckon with, something to value and something to share it.

I couldn't control myself from shedding a tear upon entering the gate of Caiñaman Elementary School, Division of La Carlota City when I conducted the first division unified test there together with my present teachers in Cubay Elem. School.

CES was my first school assignment as a classroom teacher in 1991. I was a relief teacher, handling Grade 5 and Grade 6 subjects like English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Elementary Agriculture, Industrial Arts, P.E., Music, and Arts. I was also assigned as a property custodian, Boy Scout coordinator and Non-Formal Education coordinator of the school.

I was teaching there for 7 years and later was transferred to central school, La Carlota South Elementary School 1 for 2 years until I was promoted to head teacher 3 and finally principal 1.

Indispensable Traits for Teachers To Be Effective

Do you know some virtues that could make you a teacher, an effective one?

Teacher-applicants flock in my office to submit their letter of application. I ask some of them why did they want to be teacher. Well, they simply answer me for they love teaching. Or their parents, brothers and sisters are teachers. Teachers are receiving higher pay, that's why, some of them change their college course to education. These are some of the varied reasons why people preferred teaching.

PH Public School Teachers' Clothing Allowance Hike Approved

Beginning this year 2012, the clothing allowance of the teachers in the public schools will be increased from Php4,000 to Php5,000.

Though the increase is meager, but yet it could augment the clothing needs of the teachers and could even bolster their morale of attaining the quality of education in the public school.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) claimed that this is a "victory" for them as one of the 10-point demand for greater education budget has been approved.

It was pointed out that the teachers from different groups and the teaching staff all over the country had been requesting for this increase. And the ACT was leading in a series of campaigns, mass dialogues nation-wide.

Advocacy to No Child Is Left Behind

The Division of La Carlota City recently conducted a workshop of all school heads both elementary and secondary together with their respective Punong Barangay to support the Department of Education's thrust on "No Child Is Left Behind"

In the conclusion of the said workshop , everyone has made their pledge as an advocacy to the DepEd's "No Child Is Left Behind" program. As they raised their right hand, they recited in chorus the following pledge:

A Pledge to the Children of La Carlota City As parents, educators, public servants, education advocates and caring adults, We pledge to help our children achieve a bright future. We take personal responsibility in fostering the social, intellectual, emotional and physical well-being of our children. We hereby affirm our commitment to the wholesome development of our children and pledge to make the pursuit of knowledge and life skills a priority in every household. To demonstrate our commitment, we pledge to adhere to the following principles: That every child will have access to good quality education in day care centers, elementary and secondary schools; That every child will be comfortably seated in a desk or armchair in a decent classroom and will be inspired to dream big and always give 100 percent effort to learners; That every child will have a good quality textbook and learning materials in every subject and be motivated to read each day and enthusiastically accomplish their assigned work; That every child will graduate from high school and will utilize his/her education to work for the success of his/her future; Together we commit to make this pledge a reality for the children of La Carlota City.

"Once Upon a Time" Is More than Fun!

November 25 is declared by the Department of Education as the Nationwide Reading Day/Araw ng Pagbasa and the DEpEd also has declared November as "National Reading Month of Every Year".

To comply with this declaration, all elementary schools of the division of La Carlota have conducted a whole-day synchronized storytelling/story reading in support of the ten-point agenda of the Aquino Administration and the institutionalization of "Every Child a Reader Program" (ECARP), of the Department of Education.

The Cubay Elementary School, one of the 23 public elementary schools in La Carlota conducted its own its reading story activities for the whole day. This writer who is the school principal of the school supervised the reading sessions.

Two Effective Visual Teaching Principles

Using instructional materials (IMs), the teachers could be able to make their pupils learned. This had been exemplified by the teachers of Cubay Elementary School, Division of La Carlota City in their 3rd day (October 27) in-service training (INSET) held at Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the said school.

Mrs. Ofelia N. Ayungon, special teacher of Cubay Elementary School discussed before her fellow classroom teachers some principles in using the different media; thus letting their pupils absorbed the lessons efficiently in the 3rd day morning session of their summer training.

(The following are my thoughts I have shared this afternoon to my 13 elementary school teachers in their 2nd day in-service training while their pupils having their summer break.)

A PERSON who teaches the children how to write, how to read, and how to do math and much more;

A PERSON who explains things to children how do they work, how do they operate, and how do they become useful for them and other people;

A PERSON who analyzes situations especially difficult ones for the children to easily understand and be able to come up with the practical solutions;

The Making of a Modern-Day Pinoy Hero

[Updated] Yahoo! Philippines came up with the "Pitong Pinoy" project to select seven Filipinos as identified by fellow Filipinos, the Yahoo! community, and then culled by the Yahoo! Philippines jury.

This project aims to inspire with an initiative that will recognize seven modern-day Filipino heroes in line with the commemoration of Philippine Independence, last June 12, 2011.

The nomination mechanics for these modern-day heroes include a brief explanation (not more than 200 words) of his or her accomplishments and the reason why he or she is nominated. The nominations were emailed to to ypitongpinoy@yahoo.com.ph until June 9, 2011 8:00 in the morning.
