Have I killed My Father?

I feel guilty of what I have done before to my sick and bed-ridden father. He died at the age of 76. I have prayed to the Lord to give my father the rest he needed from his lingering sickness.

Hilarion, my father was bed-ridden for several months of the sickness which I didn’t know personally. My mother didn’t tell why my father was sick though we’re living in one roof. I was actually supporting my aged parents. They were in their senior citizen status.

Every day I worked in the Church as a custodian. I seldom went home. I stayed in the Church for I have also to watch it as a night guard. Our house wasn’t far from the Church meetinghouse. From time to time, I also went home, attended to the needs of my parents, of my kids, and of course, of my wife.

This is our family tradition that every New Year's eve we have our family get-together to have some fun with children, grandchildren and in-laws, family diner, and family prayer, but also in January 1 we spend our quality time to the beach to welcome the New Year in another family activity like outing at Soleo beach, San Enrique, Neg. Occ., PH. This is already the 3rd time that we spend this new year at the said beach. We started this outing tradition in 2012.

Family Prayer

We humbly acknowledge the wonderful blessings which our Heavenly Father has given us in the entire 2016, the trials that we were able to overcome for out of those our faith in Him has become edified and strong.

In like manner, we beseech our Heavenly Father that He may continue His blessings upon us that we may have the spiritual courage to overcome any form of trials that may come into our lives, that He may grant the sincere desire of my sons, daughters, grandchildren and in-laws according to His will.

Bulaklak's Birthday Wish

The whole member of our family shared a common happiness we have had today. My wife and I early this morning spent a precious time with one of our most beloved granddaughters, Bulaklak who turned 9 years old today.

Shanley Jane Camporazo Jaud, fondly called as Bulaklak was a chubby little cute girl. She is a third grader pupil. She is a very smart girl.

Birthday Wish

After I ate my breakfast, she showed me a piece of paper with her birthday wish which she had written it last night in a grade 3 pad. It was scribbled in our local dialect, Ilonggo.

Here's the text which I translated in English:

"Birthday wish of Shanley:

1. May Jesus Christ bless me and my family.
2. May my mama and papa be in good health, my family as well.
3. May my cousins be blessed too.

And I am thankful to Jesus Christ who has helped us by saving us from sins. I am also thankful to those who have cared for me when I was sick and because of them I recovered speedily. I do love them and I do love my family. Love, Shanley"

Her mother, our 4th eldest daughter is preparing something for Bulaklak's birthday as a simple, but memorable celebration.

Her papa just sent her a ready-made cake for he was too busy working with the 4th District Congressman of Negros Occidental in their campaign sortie. Her papa was driving a service vehicle.

She celebrated her birthday with her cousins, uncle and aunties, and members of her family.

Birthday Prayer

I offered the prayer for Bulaklak's birthday. This is what I said: "Lord, we are indeed very happy today to join with our granddaughter's birthday today. We all know how her parents really love her and we all know how they work so hard to rear her up according to the nurture and admonition of Lord. Bless, Bulaklak of the wisdom which she could guide her in attaining her ambition and happiness in life.

Lead her to the path of righteousness as she stay close to the Church, as she strives to be obedient to her parents, as she never fails to read the scriptures for her spiritual growth, and as she humbles herself.

It is our faith and also it is the faith of her parents that Bulaklak may be free from any harm, that she may overcome any form of trials in her life, that she may have the good health and that she may endure to the end.

As the eldest sister of her other two sisters, Bulaklak may set the good example for them as a true and faithful member of the Church. All these things I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen"

After I prayed, she came over to me and gave me a big hug. Happy 9th Birthday, Inday Bulaklak!

'Doing Good Is a Pleasure'

When I report to work this morning, I took a walk in going to my school for it only takes me ten minutes from the high way. I will be passing the sugarcane plantation on my right and Mango plantation to my left.

While I was walking along the rough road, nearly half way to my school, I saw a crawling big earthworm along the side of the road, struggling its way to no where. I just ignored it. However, upon taking three strides something prompted me to go back. I took a second look to the struggling earthworm as I've said to nowhere.

I thought, "Does someone put it there?"

Late that night till early dawn, a heavy downpour brought by tropical storm "Dindo" softened the ground. And that's probably the reason why this wriggling thing came out from the ground and lost its way down the road.

Why We Should Fast and Pray?

Our youngest daughter, Geeree Camporazo, was one of the speakers in our Sacrament meeting this morning in the Church. It was her first time to speak before the members of La Carlota first Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As she began her talk, she greeted all father a happy father's day then she especially mentioned me for being a good father to her and I responded with a big smile from the pews while I was sitting with my wife and the others members of my family..

She shared about the importance of fasting and prayer and why we should do them. Fasting and prayer when combined can give added strength to those giving and receiving priesthood blessings according to her as she referred to the male members of the Church who have the authority of the Priesthood. The reason why the Apostles and disciples of Jesus Christ in His time could perform a miracles because of their fasting and prayer.

LDS Pattern of Prayer

Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in his "Improving Our Prayers" (Liahona, August 2004, Pp. 16-23) stated that Psalm 37 as revealed David's words as "inspired process for active prayer and faith" is considered as a "step-by-step process" as a pattern for the latter-day saints (LDS) to follow as they seek to increase their faith and improve the efficacy of their prayers.

There are 6 steps to bear in mind. "Fret Not" is the first step. To fret means to worry or to brood something. The first thing we must do is stop worrying. When we worry about the future, we create unhappiness in the present. Righteous concern may lead us to take appropriate action, but worrying about things we cannot control can paralyze and demoralize us. Instead of worrying, focus on doing all that you can, and then leave the worrying to your Heaven Father. If your heart is right with him, He will take care of the worry and the fear. We must learn to "fret not."

Ferdinand Sy, Office In-charge of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of La Carlota City has composed a prayer for the grades three and six pupils of the 23 elementary schools in the Division of La Carlota City, who will take the National Achievement Test (NAT) this March 2 and 4 respectively.
