The Seminary and Institute of Religion teachers of Bacolod South of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints recently had their regular training and meeting with Brother Sonny Deyro in tandem with his wife Sister Cristie B. Deyro at La Carlota Meetinghouse.

The focus of the training is on the Church doctrinal mastery as well expounded by Chad H. Webb, administrator for Seminary and Institute of Religion in the video shown. It is pointed out that spiritual knowledge becomes effective when the scripture mastery introduced and the principles learned, are merged.

It is also stressed there that every question in life has a bearing in the teaching of Jesus Christ. Thus every question has the answer if there's faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Thus, the opportunity to help the students of Seminar and Institute necessitates the power of the faith that gives the strength as what the scripture says "walk not faint" as read by Brother Deyro.

Retirement Day : Saying Goodbye Breaks My Heart

"Do I need to say goodbye?" This bothers me at this moment which counts down to days and weeks for my day of retiring from the government service till October 14. I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years and a school head for 4 years and school principal for 12 years. These constitute my more than 25-year services in the Department of Education (DepEd).

As what I have written to other writing sites I have joined, I quoted lines from the  popular song of 1969, "Leaving on a jet plane", these lines said "all my bags are packed. I'm ready to go. I'm standing here outside your door. I hate to wake you up and say goodbye..."

Teachers' Salary Hike Retroactive January 1

The first tranche of the salary increase of teachers in public elementary and secondary is retroactive January 1, 2016. Then follow 2nd, 3rd and 4th tranches every year thereafter until 2019.

DepEd Order No. 12, series of 2016 entitled "Implementation of the first compensation adjustment for civilian personnel, and military and uniformed personnel in the national government" was issued and signed by DepEd Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro on March 10, 2016.

The Order commands the Regional Directors and the Chief Administrative Officers of the Regional Finance Division to coordinate with their DBM counterparts on the early release of funds.

Moreover, the Undersecretary for Finance and Administration for Central Office, the Regional Director for Regional Office personnel, and the Schools Division Superintendents for Schools Division Office and school personnel are to approve the Notices of Salary Adjustments (NOSAs) to every personnel.

Teachers' Salary Hike Hanging

The public teachers as one of the 1.5 million government employees whose salary increase is scheduled to be implemented next year in January 2016 shall have to wait for the next session of the Senate which unable to approve the Salary Standardization Law-4 in the last session they had on December 16, Wednesday, the news said.

Though the House had approved it on the 3rd and final reading the DBM version on December 9, the SSL-4 plan was held in abeyance due to the amendments introduced by Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile.

The amendment may include the Senate version of SSL-4 to include the salary adjustment of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) retirees. It is not included for the reason that it is already too much in the "huge cost of the plan."

Senator Ralph Recto and Vicente Sotto III supported motion made by Senator Enrile for the said amendment which is "significant increase in the funding" for the salary-standardization Law.

Once, the introduced amendment be approved, the 57.9 billion would be given as the first tranche to the government employees concerned effective January 2016.

How do you appreciate your teacher? Teacher is a special person who is responsible for producing all types of professionals. She or he should be recognized for such efforts of teaching those professionals. She or he makes or unmakes the society for she/he is the "normative indicator of the social health."

Balabag Elementary School, one of the 23 elementary schools in the Division of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental with a complete basic elementary curriculum observes Teachers' Day in separate days since September 5 until it's culminated on the 2nd day of October.

Its culmination program was sponsored by the parents and their organization led by Mary Jane Ramo. In a simple program, teachers and the school principal were honored by simple token given by the PTA officers and parents to the respective teachers in kinder, primary and intermediate grade levels.

Public School Teachers, Are They Obliged to Attend Saturday Meeting?

It seems that it is a common practice in the Department of Education (DepEd} that weekends are used to be the schedule for the public school teachers to conduct their in-service training, review for national assessment of the pupils, among others. Those teachers concerned are clamoring why Saturdays or Sundays?

DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005, in particular so provides, that since the quality of education is deteriorating, the teachers are "to increase engaged time-on-task so that the required number of school days in every school year and the time allotment to teaching every subject in school are met by minimizing activities participated in by the teachers and the pupils.

On the other hand, DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2009 regulates the 8-hour working requirement of the teachers to render in the school. It points out definitely that the teachers should have 6 hours actual teaching and 2 hours for teaching-related activities.

With that DepEd Orders, the teachers are already fed up of their teaching job. And of course, they need to have some rest, relaxation. In short, a time for their family they need. But there are occasions that they have to go to school even during Saturdays and Sundays for a meeting, conference, training and the like.

Just a matter of concern on the sale of TAGA-DEPED AKO t-shirt for I am one of the concerned members of TDA group in the Facebook, I posted a query and a request for the status of those who have already availed of and then suggested if it could be posted for others to know as a matter of transparency (with no malice at all.) Unfavorable comments, reactions kept on pouring which I had never expected at all of such negative situation.

What really should come to mind is just an explanation, a clarification or whatever in an ethical way. I had no knowledge before hand that there was already one concerned member who had raised this similar query I had had.

What bothered me more was my position as a school principal had been mentioned. belittled. They questioned my authority, my intrusion of such business which called for the personal decision of every teacher to buy the t-shirt or not. It was no longer my business so to speak according to the commentors.

Therefore, I was a bit the center of the discussion in TAGA-DEPED AKO, a closed group page in the Facebook. I was totally misunderstood and misconstrued of my point of view by the members of the said group. It seemed that they regarded the situation personally, and to the extent of dragging me unprofessionally.

How To Print Masterlist of Learner in LIS

The encoding and enrolling of learner to his respective school through an online site created for this purpose, the Learner Information System have been done by all the public schools, both in elementary and secondary in the Department of Education here in our country PH.

Though some online users found it taxing on their part for some internet glitches which couldn't be remedied immediately. Some have to work it until the following morning just to beat the deadline.

Actually what can you expect from those novice, neophytes as far as cyber job is concerned? Imperfection. Trial and error. Trivial queries or a mere or utter curse of the system which they admit is very new to them. Anyway, what else can we do? Charge it to experience.

Trillanes: Curtailing Summer Salaries of Public School Teachers, Not True

Public school teachers, both in elementary and high school, are entitled for summer proportionate pay as one of their remuneration benefits as provided by law.

Rumors of cutting off teachers’ salary benefit during summer vacation have circulated particularly during the recent elections in the country in which a Senator is held responsible for such unwelcome move filed in the Senate.

Letter Received

On the first week of January 2014, I received a personalized letter from the  office of Senator Antonio "Sonny" F. Trillanes IV.

It was late in the afternoon of Monday after office hour while I was waiting for a motorized tricycle to get me to the  Globe office for I am going to pay my monthly bill, I noticed that my daughter-in-law was catching me while I was about to get in. She handed me a sealed mail. I never minded it for I assumed that it was a Globe letter of collection which I used to receive every month.

Harvest of Excellence, Teachers' Recognition

Teachers all over the country need to be recognized and honored in this special day set aside for them, October 5 in collaboration with the celebration of World Teacher Day (WTD).

In our division, we do this through a humble way of awarding them. We call it as "Harvest of Excellence" to recognize the exemplary, meritorious and even outstanding accomplishment of school, teachers, school administrators in academic excellence attained by the teachers concerned.

Just imagine, more than eight hundred teachers, both Elementary and Secondary level, of the small division of La Carlota City are all excited for the honor given them by the division along with the blessings of the city government through Mayor Juliet Marie Ferrer.

Awards given may include the following outstanding National Achievement Test (NAT) in Grade III and Grade VI, consistent division unified test achievers in all subject areas, outstanding principal and department head. Major awards have a corresponding cash award.

Reminiscing My Teacher, My Hero

Recollecting my elementary and high school teachers is my own unique way of honoring them as my hero as the World Teachers' Day is fast approaching. World Teachers' Day is usually celebrated every October 5. The Philippines by virtue of Proclamation 242 declares September 5 to October 5 as "National Teachers' Month".

I couldn't forget my teachers who taught me the value of good manners and right conduct, the value of being diligent, industrious, humble, religious, among others.

Ma'm Dolores Acot, my grade one teacher, I consider her as one of the greatest teachers I ever idolized and endeared so much for she made a difference in my life.

Most of my influential teachers were already dead, but their attitude, their love, their concern on how I should be in the future are implanted in my mind, exemplified in the way I live. Those influences are never be left to oblivion. They're in my heart, in my mind and in my life forever.

PH Teachers To Enjoy More GSIS Benefits

After their delinquent Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) monthly contributions be written off, the PH teachers, who are active and retired will enjoy more monetary benefits from GSIS as disclosed  by GSIS President and General Manager Robert Vergara.

This laudable gesture of the PH government states that P14 billion interest charges from more than P6 billion for GSIS unpaid of teachers' contributions as government share in the past 13 years will be condoned by the GSIS in a recent "historic agreement."

The three government agencies like the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the GSIS, and the DepED  were respectively represented by Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Education Secretary Armin Luistro and GSIS president and general manager Robert Vergara signed this agreement in Malacañang in the presence of President NoyNoy Aquino.

This memorable event took place as a part of the celebration of National Teachers' month which has kicked off September 5 to October 5, 2012.

PH Public School Teachers To Receive Php35T

The Philippine public school teachers are all excited to receive an almost 100% hike from their present salary when a salary increase measure will be enacted into law and implemented.

Salary Increase

A bill proposing for 93% increase of the 500,000 public school teachers is filed by Senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV.

A gross salary of P35,567 will be received by the teachers in lieu of their present salary of P18,549, that is, from salary grade of 11 to salary grade of 20.

Senator Trillanes qualified that this is in line with the 4th tranche of the implementation of the Salary Standardization Law (SSL).

"The theme of our gathering, the 65th general alumni homecoming is the "strength and love of the alumni." At first glance, I thought that strength and love go hand in hand. But now I have realized that this may not always be the case. At my age and graduating from this high school in 1954, I can feel my strength slowly leaving my side. Strength now seems to be a distant group of memories of what I used to do in this high school Love on the other hand continues to take root deeper in me and to take hold stronger of me.

'Sorry na Lang' To Teachers with Un-updated GSIS Records

"Sorry na lang" to those who failed to update their GSIS records said House Assistant Majority Leader and Davao City Representative Karlo Nograles in a hearing in the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability recently.

The news said that the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) contributions of some 198,000 teachers and other Department of Education (DepED) employees are in danger.

This was known after a hearing in the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability was conducted to investigate the alleged massive irregularities in the GSIS as prompted by Alliance of Volunteer Educators (AVE) party-list Representative Eulogio Magsaysay.
