Retirement Day : Saying Goodbye Breaks My Heart

"Do I need to say goodbye?" This bothers me at this moment which counts down to days and weeks for my day of retiring from the government service till October 14. I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years and a school head for 4 years and school principal for 12 years. These constitute my more than 25-year services in the Department of Education (DepEd).

As what I have written to other writing sites I have joined, I quoted lines from the  popular song of 1969, "Leaving on a jet plane", these lines said "all my bags are packed. I'm ready to go. I'm standing here outside your door. I hate to wake you up and say goodbye..."

School Supervisor Bids Adieu Happy

Melba N. Cañet who will turn 65 tomorrow will finally leave the portal of education as she retires from the service as district I supervisor in the division of La Carlota City.

Teachers and school heads of district I comprising the schools of Ayungon, Balabag, Batuan,  Caiñaman, CAC Malipayon, La Carlota South 1, and Ferlou tendered her a fond farewell rites this afternoon. They gave her a tribute in a form of entertainment like songs and dance, poem reading, impressions.

Teachers, Parents Hands Off!

"The House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading House Bill 4455, criminalizing forms of corporal punishment on children, Wednesday," the news said.

Bagong Henerasyon party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy and Tarlac Rep. Susan Yap, the authors of HB 4455 said this bill will promote positive forms of discipline on children.

When enacted into law, this could be the first positive and non-violent measure to be implemented  so far on child discipline among parents, teachers, and other persons entrusted with the guardianship of children.

Two Honest Filipina Street Cleaners Recognized

Honest people are still abounding around us. They're doing good, even though no one is watching them.

Recently two Filipina, Marilyn Campos, 39, a single mother, and Analyn Aquino, 26, were rewarded by city Mayor Lani Cayetano of Taguig for their honesty. Each received a cash gifts of P10,000.

While doing their day-to-day chores as a street cleaners, they accidentally found the P95,000 cash in a trash can inside the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) compound in Bicutan, Taguig City, last week, the news said.

DepEd Fun Run for Rizal's Birthday To Benefit Schools

The Department of Education implements today its national Fun Run project to celebrate the 150th birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero who died for his country Philippines after writing two novels: "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" which incited the Katipuneros to revolts against the Spanish government.

This DepEd Fun run aims to invite more participants to donate educational materials or volunteer time for education-related activities to benefit public schools nationwide especially the schools have already open.
