Health is one of the most important and advantageous possessions an individual can have. Unfortunately, many people find their health compromised such that they lack the energy and mood stability necessary to work and love with power and productivity. However, there are several health strategies you can implement to get on the road to optimal wellness. Here are three of them:

Oftentimes, people find that they have a disease and develop a mindset of tolerance. Don't adopt this mentality. Making Grade Pupils Disease-Free

The Department of Health (DoH) enjoins every agency to support its preventive program for the control of morbidity and mortality among school age children through immunization in August.

DepEd Memorandum No. 82, s. 2015,  was issued to this effect reiterating the proper guidelines issued by the DoH in the implementation of school-based immunization.

To ensure high levels of protection for diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus among children, this project should be carried and implemented anew since it was the focused of Expanded Program of Immunizaion (EPI) in 1975,

This program is geared towards the immunization of school children and adolescents who are enrolled in the school. The vaccines for  Measles Rubella (MR) and Tetanus Diptheria are intended for the grades 1 and 7, while HPV is for grade 4 pupils.

The Department of Education, Division of La Carlota City kicked off its program implementation yesterday to the students of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, and in the Special Education (SPED).

SALLY means SERVICE

Salvacion Zamora-Rodriguez is a low profile person,  but she is a by-word among the people of Dos Hermanos, Talisay, Negros Occidental, PH and Barangay 2, La Carlota City respectively as efficient Barangay Health Worker (BHW).

Her name, Salvacion is a Spanish in origin. It is equivalent to English word, salvation. No wonder why, she has "saved" some people who are suffering from serious diseases. Thus, in the very nature of her work as barangay technician for health on primary health care, she had “saved” two poor sick people in her area of assignment.

These persons were native of La Carlota City. It happened that one of them is my nephew. One of the children of uncle George Iligan. He is Dikiam Iligan. Now he fully recovers and is earning for a living a skilled carpenter. The other one is Mary Ann Gonzales who is also suffering from a malignant disease. Both of them were saved from possible death by Sally who administers for their daily medical needs and assistance.

If not for Sally's consistent health service in monitoring and dispensing prescribed medicines for them, probably they might have had passed away.

Campaign for Dengue-Free School

Isolated cases of Dengue fever in some  barangay here in our small city of La Carlota were quite alarming. And one of our male pupils had been reported to be stricken by this dengue virus from the place where he lives. He was confined to hospital for several days and later he was discharged after fully recovered from the said malady.

The 23 elementary schools and 5 secondary schools in our school division are looked into. With this number of schools, the division is so sensitive for the situation that the pupils and students will be victimized by this life-threatening dengue carrying mosquitoes if not properly checked and prevented. To this effect, therefore, the Schools Division Superintendent issued a memorandum on the campaign for Dengue-Free school.

Aloha Medical Mission: Help with Many Hands

Aloha Medical Mission's program which is translated to Hawaii as "Kokua me ka Laulima," conducts a 6-day medical mission here in Negros Occidental.

Toto Bryan Camporazo, our 10-year old grandson, has availed this Aloha Medical Mission free service. He had been operated before  of his cleft palate in an operation Smile and he needs a follow up for the repair of it. So he was recommended by our health coordinator in our place. And several poor and needy residents with health problems that need to be operated had already been identified and recommended too.

Dr. Jeff Healy, one of the volunteer doctors in the said mission untouched Bryan's cleft palate which had already been repaired, instead he  revised the cleft lip to look natural.

I personally talked to him. He is friendly, approachable. I learned later that Dr. Healy is a certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery which is the only board in plastic surgery recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties as I searched the internet.

This mission is held at Teresita L. Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital, Silay City, Philippines.

How does this program operated:

1. AMM sends teams of doctors and nurses to medically underserved countries in the Asia-Pacific region. These teams work with local organizations and hospitals to address the needs of people whose health is challenged by poverty and poor access to health care.

2. AMM operates the only free dental clinic in Hawai‘i. We help those who lack insurance and do not have the financial resources to afford basic dental care.

3. AMM coordinates a collaboration of two O‘ahu hospitals, private surgeons, and private anesthesiologists who provide free outpatient surgical care to the indigent. This program is called Kōkua me ka Laulima: Help With Many Hands.

The mission started February 25 and will end March 1, 2013.

Recipients are recommended by their respective health workers and they are finally screened by the doctors who will handle their needs. Minor and major surgical operations are conducted.

Negros First and Biggest Organic Festival Slated

The first and biggest 5-day organic festival in the Philippines of the Negros Island Organic Farmers is on December 16 and it will last until 20 at Provincial Capitol Grounds, Bacolod City.

As one of the largest fairs of certified organic food product here in the country, it started in 2006 and made a name for the Negros island as "the Organic Food Bowl of Asia" for being the major producer of organic products in the country.

More than 100 farmers will showcase their best products like Locavore, native, Artisanal, Vegan, healthy and other sustainable produce.

Tawa Tawa, Dengue Alternative Cure

Tawa Tawa or Gatas Gatas (Euphorbia hirta Linn) manifests to have good effects on rehydration and even in treating dengue patients as claimed by users.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona disclosed at a forum on Friday that the initial research work on the local plant "appears" to have "some effects" on replenishing loss of water in the body.

The Department of Health (DoH) has asked the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to look into plants, including "tawa-tawa," that may help in the treatment of the mosquito-borne disease, which has claimed hundreds of children lives nationwide.

Ona was optimistic of the preliminary results in terms of isolation for they indicate that there is an active component. He said we should be very happy with that.
