Youth's Initiative: Sweepwalk, Keeping the City Clean

This has prompted some concerned youths of La Carlota City, who recently took their precious time sometime in the first week of January 2019 to do some cleaning in some parts of the city, particularly the plaza, some parts of the city streets like San Agustin, Yunque, and the Agora or the public market.

One hundred ten young men and young women volunteered this Sweepwalk community project. Kudos to them. They have displayed their sincere concern about the environment especially the cleanliness of the surrounding. This is for the cleanliness of their city as pointed out.

Advocating Government Greening Program

A variety of fruit trees of different kinds and a bunches of vegetable tops and root crops were availed by our school, Cubay Elementary School as price as one of the winners in the BPI on-the-spot cooking contest held recently at the nursery compound of the government agency.

These fruit trees could serve as the planting materials for the school tree planting activity. These are only a portion of planting trees in implementing the National Greening Program of the PH government that all government employees and students shall plant ten (10) trees per year for six (6) years. The program started in 2011 and will end in 2016.

NGP main objectives are to consolidate and harmonize all greening efforts of the government agencies, schools, civil society and private sectors to implement sustainable management of natural resources through resource conservation, protection, and productivity enhancement and climate change mitigation by expanding forest cover.

Every Tree Planted, Life Is Saved

Every tree planted, grown and survived provides a great chance for every mankind to survive and even to live a bit longer.

This principle has prompted the Alternative Learning System (ALS) mobile teacher, Ms. Corazon Aloro to organize and lead the ALS participants who were composed of the learners with their respective instructional managers IMs). She facilitated the provision of the streamer and the rest of the planting materials needed for the tree planting activity by coordinating with the local Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Every participant has to bring his or her own food provisions and reserved drinking water for a long walk going uphill to the area for tree planting. It weather at that time was very cooperative. It was a sunny day, though it rained heavily last night.

What Knowledge To Save Environment

Can earth survive, if the environment is taken cared of?

This is the very question that I am asking myself while attending another environment forum conducted by the city of La Carlota recently. This annual enrivonment forum was participated in by different agencies within the city like the schools, both public and private; people's organizations, non-government organizations, government entities, religious and civic organizations.

My science teacher, Ms. Gemma Salazar and her two grade six pupils represented our school, Cubay Elementary School at the function hall of the city.

Information Officer of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) Ms. Olive H. Seruelo was invited once again to share her informative and prolific thoughts on environment. This year, she comprehensively unfolded the legitimate action on how to save the earth with a detailed plan of actions.
