Leo Sichon: 'Soar High Doña Hortencia'

Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School (DHSBNHS) formerly La Carlota City High School, my Alma Mater is showered by the blessings beyond expectation from the able-bodied school principal, Dr. Leo Sichon. He is so thankful to the Lord for these blessings in 2016.

Those are some lines of Sir Leo Sichon, principal of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School for a series of accolades, recognition, awards and accomplishment which the talented, brilliant students of his school have achieved this year.

"Grabe ang blessings ni Lord," said Sir Leo in his Facebook, "2016 is a blessed and a good year for dhsbnhs. thank you Lord God for all of these honors and accolades . thank you people for always trusting, believing and inspiring us...love you all!!!"

Schools Division Superintendent Portia M. Mallorca manifested her congratulations to Sir Leo for the various major awards and recognition which DHSBNHS harvested in 2016 in one or two of her Facebook greetings to Sir Leo's timeline.

This Is the Day to be Grateful of

Two decades and 9 years ago, I should be grateful for this day. For two consecutive years, I maintained the status of the top academic student of the year while I was studying in La Carlota City college every closing of the academic year. And these events had influenced me so much the reason why I should be thankful for a day. Yes, that is to be thankful of the numerous blessings that have come into my life while studying and at the same working.

Elucidating the mark of a true finisher

The year that I completed my college studies in the said college, I was surprised when I received a humble note from the chairman of Recognition Committee, Domingo F. Nolasco. The letter said that I am "unanimously chosen" as "Outstanding Student this year" (1985) and I was requesting to give the statement of gratitude during the Recognition Ceremonies.

Thus, 29 years ago today, I gave this thought of gratefulness addressing my fellow academic awardees in a rites held for the purpose at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Rizal Hall with presence of my wife and my surrogate parents. It was also fitting to be thankful with the Lord for the timely discharge of wife, Rebecca from the City Health ward after recuperating from gatroenteritis infected by amoeba. She looked emaciated for she was confined for a week.

Kids, You Did It So Well!

Our talented and able-bodied intermediate pupils did it to the cultural and athletic limelight after showing their best in district cultural and area athletic meet respectively.

Our school, Cubay Elementary School is so proud of having garnered a recognition and honor for the accomplishment made by our 4 intermediate pupils in the recent district II cultural contest held at La Carlota North Elementary School and also in the just concluded area IV meet held at Ramon Y. Torres Sports Center, Bago City in 2013.

Their parents, relatives, friends and classmates are also so proud of them for the things they get by doing their best, by making it in the humble, honest, and determined way with the inspiration and guidance of the Almighty.

Your teachers, advisers are really very happy and proud of you. Congratulations to all of you!

You did it well, son. We're very happy and very proud of you for giving us the honor by achieving those special awards in your computer programming course as you graduate this March. I am indeed elated of what you have achieved as your father. My happiness is immeasurable. You deserve those awards. You have painstakingly worked for them.

Got the Talent

It is really a great honor not only to me as your father but to our whole family. Your mother is very proud of you. She even remembers when you did it initially when you were still in your kindergarten grades you also gave us the honor when you excelled in math and other subjects. And also you did get another recognition or award when you were in grade one.

This time you made it as the "Best in Programming" in your COMPRO class and also as the "Best in Web Design". I know how hard you did it and how you spent much of your time and efforts even to the extent of burning a midnight candle just to attain such honor in which we are gratifying compensated of what we do in rearing you up in what you are now, in what you have achieved..

The True Essence of Recognition

Late this afternoon, I was busy preparing for our recognition and closing exercises for my latest school, Cubay Elementary School tomorrow. What a coincidence! I was able to retrieve from my old file my recognition message to our outstanding and honor pupils of Yubo Elementary School in their 40th recognition program 5 years ago.

The School Principal

I decided to post it here. Since I don't want to miss every word of it, so I am posting here the entire message. To wit:

All of us is every proud of you as mentors and your parents too for what you have achieved in your own academic endeavor. And what we are doing today is an act of concern, an act of honor, and an act of love of your exemplary works and deeds academically for your parents, for your family, for your school, for your community, for your country, for yourself, and foremost for your loving Heavenly Father.

Functional Definition of Recognition

In this manner, I may define recognition as a thanksgiving for Heavenly Father's love - an unfeigned love, unconditional, sincere kind of love. Therefore, it may stand for living an exemplary life for other's to emulate just what Jesus did for you. It is very difficult to do it but it is possible. It may be referred to obeying God's commandments in order for you to receive God's divine blessings and protection from any untoward eventualities. It may also be leading to venerating or giving due profound respect and reverence to God's divinity, well-being and creation  And it may finally be a commitment of enduring to the end by overcoming trials, tribulations, afflictions, and challenges in life in any form, be it small or big, and finally coming out conqueror and successful.
