No more fanfare! No more moving of chairs and tables! No more activities that will hamper the holding of regular classes!
This should be the proper scenario in the opening of classes on June 4 in the elementary and even in the secondary schools in the PH.
Since June 4 is the opening of regular classes of all elementary schools, both the public and the private in the Philippines, two weeks before, every school should be ready and prepared for the classes.
Various concerned internal and external stakeholders like the parents, community residents, private individuals, and even a group of youth, religious, professional sectors allot their time, efforts, talents and even money and materials for the maintenance of the school.
Inception of Brigada Eskwela
And this kind of program introduced by the DepEd is the so-called Brigada Eskwela, which is usually held two weeks before or every 3rd week of May, the regular opening of classes.
Brigada Eskwela since its inception in May 2003 as one of the Department of Education's major initiatives has gained support from the school heads. Local communities have favorably responded to the needs of public schools and they're now a part and parcel of improving Philippine basic education.
BE functions well in the spirit of volunteerism. The students, teachers, school officials, parents, community members, local government officials, non-government officials, church groups and the private sector have offered freely their time and efforts and other resources to work together in repairing and preparing public schools for school opening.
The DepEd always emphasizes that BE is one of its front line initiatives reminding each and every Filipino that we are all stakeholders in education.
Brigada Eskwela Steering Committee
The Brigada Eskwela Steering Committee spearheads the the implementation of the Brigada Eskwela Program and oversees the various efforts to be undertaken for the program such as marketing and advocacy, resource mobilization, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
BES Committee is composed of the school head/principal as overall chairman, PTCA President or Representative, and the members may include the following: school physical facilities coordinator, barangay chairman/representative, school governing council, private sector representative, selected teachers/students, others.
Cubay Elem. School Brigada Eskwela
The Cubay Elem. School has benefited so much with the assistance and help of the "helping hands" of the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the efforts and time spent by the members of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Cubay in the maintenance of the school ground and cleanliness, and Barangay Captain Noel Vargas with his full support.
Success in Collaboration Efforts
Every school administrator looks forward in seeing his school ready for education. He believes that the successful collaboration of the DepEd, the government, the community and the private sector could ensure that Filipino children and youth go to school, remain in school and learn in school.
