Mayor Jalandoni: 'Glorious Vocation in Sports'

"Achieving Excellence Through Sports" is this year's theme of the Division Meet of La Carlota City as it formally opens up by a street parade, declaration of oath of amateurism, among others. Selected athletes in three districts in the elementary level and another selected athletes in the secondary level in public and private schools participated in this 3-day meet.

La Carlota Mayor Luis "Jacky" Jalandoni III in his message stressed that sports development program is one of his top priorities. He wanted that there would be a new generation of competent athletes, making sports a glorious vocation. He expected that every athlete would participate in the game enthusiastically. Thus camaraderie and sportsmanship may be enjoyed. He further said that defeat and victory have their own role as far as sports competition is concerned. In defeat, the athletes are "striving more" while in victory they are made aware not to be fallen.

"One of the top priorities of the city government under my leadership is to broaden the sports development program, because we've continually aspiring to produce home-grown young and promising athletes who will dominate the international sports arena in the near future.

"We have heard of the outstanding performances of our local players in tennis, boxing, track and field, athletics, and arnis. And I learned that many of them were able to study in many prestigious colleges as varsity players, and opportunities were just knocking at their doors.

Our talented and able-bodied intermediate pupils did it to the cultural and athletic limelight after showing their best in district cultural and area athletic meet respectively.

Our school, Cubay Elementary School is so proud of having garnered a recognition and honor for the accomplishment made by our 4 intermediate pupils in the recent district II cultural contest held at La Carlota North Elementary School and also in the just concluded area IV meet held at Ramon Y. Torres Sports Center, Bago City in 2013.

Their parents, relatives, friends and classmates are also so proud of them for the things they get by doing their best, by making it in the humble, honest, and determined way with the inspiration and guidance of the Almighty.

Division Athletic Meet: 'Achieving Something Honorable'

In every competition, there is always a winner and there is always a loser. But in sports contest, everyone who joins and does excel his best, whether he wins or not, is already a winner.

La Carlota Vice Mayor Luis J. Jalandoni in his message firmly believed that there is "something honorable" that could be achieved in an athletic meet like this one of the Division of La Carlota City.

He had stressed that winning contributing factor in this particular meet is determined by the relationship established by every athlete among themselves. He pointed out, "In every endeavor, relationship matters most."

In like manner, City Sports Coordinator Ruben Guerra, my high school batch mate, class 1970 had shared his inspiring words of thought to the competing athletes. He has highly regarded this sports competition as a "hope for a better performance" of everyone. He also strongly believed that success of this activity is achieved because of friendship, harmony, and sportsmanship among the athletes.

Talking of cockfighting and cock-breeding , I'm reminded of one familiar person whom I stumbled some other day as I opened my FB account early in the morning. I consider him as one individual with a big heart of compassion to his friends, associates and constituents.

I'm referring to the former city mayor of La Carlota, Juancho Aguirre. I could vouch for the family Aguirre with unstained record of statesmanship, and public service for I've been helped and some of my family members and relatives.

Unity Is A Must in Every Sports

The recent concluded Congressional Athletic and Cultural Meet in the 4th district of Negros Occidental, PH reflected the unity among the people and the government officials of the said district by showing their support and cooperation.

Among the three athletic delegations, the Bago City (B) triumphed by amassing 112 golds against La Carlota City (L) with 98 golds and PONPUVASAN (Pontevedra, Pulupandan, San Enrique) (P), 21 golds.

This district meet opened with a big bang at the Doña HOrtencia Salas Benedicto National High School Sports Complex last November 9, 2011.

To recall what Congressman Jeffrey P. Ferrer of 4th district of Negros Occidental said in his inspirational message was an expression of his optimism that this event is not only a friendly competitions but a camaraderie of the people in every towns and cities in 4th district to show that that unity always prevails.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9, all roads here in Negros Occidental  PH especially in the 4th Congressional District  lead to the humble city of La Carlota for the opening of the 4th congressional athletic and cultural meet.

Athletic delegations coming from Bago City, PONPUVASAN (Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Valladolid, and San Enrique) and the host city, La Calota will converge at the oval of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School for a 3-day sports competition.

This annual sports competition among athletes within the fourth congressional district of Negros Occidental is focused on peace and solidarity through sports development.

The PHL Dragon Boat Team after winning the championship in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championship, Sunday, August 7, 2011 in Tampa Bay, Florida was disowned by the Philippine Olympic Committee for alleged cheating due to "technicalities", but yet they were honored by some Filipinos in Florida and will be honored in their own locality too, the news said.

Though "badmouth... unsupported... unloved by Phillipine sports officials", they still got the guts to succeed, the will to survive though no cash incentives, no heroes welcome. They still  excelled at the boat rowing competition, garnered 5 golds, 2 silvers and established a new world record.

Australia placed second in the event and Japan came in third.

Azkals Makes History of Most "First"

Congratz Azkals! They went to history today after they beat the Sri Lanka Brave Reds, 4-0 in the second leg of their Round 1 World Cup qualifier at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Manila, Philippines where 12,000 spectators of mixed feelings.

Playing in your home town or country is an edge. Look at the victorious Azkals. They live in the Philippines. Of course, they are used to the climatic condition of the country.  That's why, in spite of the heavy downpour in the first half, they fixed the tie on an aggregate of 5-1 and made history on several counts, the news said.

Philippines Zeroes Mongolia in Football Game

The Azkals, the Philippine football team toppled Mongolian football team in 2-0 game held Wednesday night in Panaad Stadium, Bacolod City, Philippines.

The stadium was jam-packed with football fans mostly Negrense. The provincial government of Negros Occidental gave away free tickets to its cities and municipalities as a support to the football Philippine team.

Mongolian football team manager was impressed of the discipline and good behavior of the excited fans when the game was over. The fans didn't manifest a frantic behavior right after the conclusion of the game. They didn't right away rushed to the oval to meet their winning team. Instead they cheered for more than 10 minutes before they went to the oval to congratulate the Azkals.
