How My Sister Molds Me of What I Am Now

In my time, there was no preschool or kindergarten. A grade school children had to go through the rudiments of learning by a strict, disciplinarian teachers who looked like a tiger or a fierce animal when discipline is concerned. Children learned out of fear.

My first teacher is my eldest sister. She was 23 years old when she handled my private lesson or tutorial in writing, arithmetic, and reading when I was in grade one.

Inday Elesita, our eldest sister followed up my writing lesson at home when my mother was busy or out to market.

And Inday Sita was of no difference from those teacher I mentioned although she had no teaching experience for she just my tutor. She was too strict, too cruel. She used to hit me when I couldn't catch up what she was teaching me.

She was also a strict disciplinarian. In learning to write my name, she had to put me on top of the table which was too difficult for me to get down when I wanted too for I couldn't reach the floor. I had no choice but to do her bid. I had to write my complete several times in several pages of the pad paper with no mistake.

Earth Hour 2012 - Disgusting?

It has been said that "earth hour" started with an idea, then a symbol and finally it was hatched into a movement to appeal to the inhabitants of the world to be united in protecting the earth.

"Earth Hour" is conceptualized to help the planet earth and a lot more benefits so to speak when conscientiously observed. So be it.

Anyway, we've observed it. At the strike of 8:30 p.m. our youngest son took hold right away of our electrical main switch and switches it off. Our two grandchildren, Bryan, 9 and Adgel, 8 were surprised why the light went off.

Who's To Be Blamed?

A Korean senior high school student killed his mother for he was apprehensive that he might be scolded by his mother and even treated him cruelly because of a low academic performance he had in his report card, the news said.

The Korean Herald reported that an 18-year old senior high school student of Seoul National University's School of Law cut his mother's throat with a kitchen knife in March for being "afraid of the severe punishment" which his mother might inflict on him when she knew that he was making a false report of his grades.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9, all roads here in Negros Occidental  PH especially in the 4th Congressional District  lead to the humble city of La Carlota for the opening of the 4th congressional athletic and cultural meet.

Athletic delegations coming from Bago City, PONPUVASAN (Pontevedra, Pulupandan, Valladolid, and San Enrique) and the host city, La Calota will converge at the oval of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School for a 3-day sports competition.

This annual sports competition among athletes within the fourth congressional district of Negros Occidental is focused on peace and solidarity through sports development.

Teachers, Parents Hands Off!

"The House of Representatives has passed on third and final reading House Bill 4455, criminalizing forms of corporal punishment on children, Wednesday," the news said.

Bagong Henerasyon party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy and Tarlac Rep. Susan Yap, the authors of HB 4455 said this bill will promote positive forms of discipline on children.

When enacted into law, this could be the first positive and non-violent measure to be implemented  so far on child discipline among parents, teachers, and other persons entrusted with the guardianship of children.
