Brigada Eskwela

Brigada Eskwela (Day 16)

by Rey Laguda

(This is the 16th day of 50-day journey of DepEd Undersecretary Rey Laguda as being serialized here with his permission, culled from his Facebook account - Blogger/owner)

In 2003, the Department of Education launched the National Schools Maintenance Week or what is more commonly known as Brigada Eskwela. Now on its 13th year, the theme this year is "Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula Kindergarten hanggang Senior High School".

This will be held from May 30 to June 4, 2016 in all public schools all over the country. This is one week of the year, where we overwhelmingly see the Bayanihan spirit in action. Millions of Filipinos take part in this annual week-long effort to help prepare schools for the start of the school year. It is a demonstration of the community's support for education.

Significance of Work and School Logo

Recently I assumed my duty as the new school principal of Balabag Elementary School in the Division of La Carlota City. I met with the 13 teachers in a 2-hour conference with them.

We had a lot of things being discussed especially on the finalization of online enrollment in Learner Information System (LIS), the latest encoding of school data on the end of school year at the EBEIS (enhanced Basic Education Information System), preparation for the annual school maintenance week, the so-called Brigada Eskwela which will start on May 19 to May 24, 2014.

Also discussed were the week-long activity on the Operation Balik Eskwela (back to school) and final review of class program which every teacher handles in the opening of classes in June 2. I shared a brief background of some of the teachers who happened to be familiarized with me. One was female teacher was our first honors when I was a classroom teacher before in CaiƱaman Elementary School, which was my first teaching assignment area and later my first elementary school supervised and administered as a head teacher when I was promoted after 7 years of teaching.
