"Matatag na Pamilya Maunlad na Bukas" (Strong Family: Tomorrow's Progress) is 2016 theme. The Family Week Celebration of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is participated in by various units/branches in the district. Aas one of the pioneer members of the Church in our place, we have something to present to prove that family is important.
My wife and I are happy indeed to reach our 44 years of married life. I remember that it was in 1972 when we got married at the age of 21. I never had a penny in my pocket in that momentous day of our marriage. It was the late City Judge Mate who officiated our marriage in his office at the second floor of the city hall.
Our marriage sponsors were Renato Sofio, a former city councilor; Ishmael Espartero, Fortunata Jalandoni. Only our own respective father witnessed our civil marriage. Hilarion Camporazo, my father and Marciano Demabildo, my wife's father supported us at that time. After the marriage, we just left the city hall and went straight to our home. It's a poor nuptial rite for we'd nothing to offer to them.
I was studying in the college at the time when I married Rebing. It was on July 13, 1972, when my wife delivered a baby boy. We gave him his Christian name as Greg and we called him Dondon for his fond name. It's a namesake from a vernacular character, Dondon sa Barrio. We had a blessed life after I got a job at the local Rural Bank. That is after I finished my 4-year degree course in commerce.
I wanted to be a teacher so I took education subjects at the city college. I attended them after my office hours in the bank. I completed it and passed the teacher's board exams. After 5 years I left the bank. There's a job waiting for me at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's a property custodian and I discharged it for 10 years.
In 1991, the Division Office, Ministry of Education hired me as a classroom teacher in Caiñaman Elementary School. After 9 years, I was promoted to Head Teacher III and took charge of the said school. After 6 years, I was promoted to school principal and took charge the Salamanca Elementary School. After 25 years in the service, I would be retiring on October 14 at the age of 65.
Out of those working years, my wife was supportive of me. We keep our marital relationship without letup. It's natural for every married couple to have a misunderstanding, disappointment, and other personal problems. It's good we succeeded to overcome them. I was able to bring back our good terms by courting her again and again. This means it is my way of life in doing that to my wife. And, of course, our constant communication makes everything easier for us.
Our 36-year membership in the Church makes us strong and steadfast in time of distress and depression. Our faith and prayer strengthen us.
