School principals of Negros Occidental cluster like Victorias City, Silay City, Bacolod City, and La Carlota City have joined the 3-day workshop on school governance as envisioned by the late DILG secretary Jesse M.Robredo at El Fisher Hotel, Bacolod City.
"Changing the lives of children" is the theme of the workshop that will give every principal the insight on identifying the priority-learning outcomes and programs in implementing the school improvement plan and operations of school governing council. It is further designed to integrate among themselves the principles of school governance according to Robredo, like projecting a good image of principals, and building alliances.
What Is Synergeia?
As what mentioned in its site, Synergeia is a coalition of individuals, institutions, and organizations working to improve the quality of basic education.
They implement programs to improve basic education for nearly 1.5 million schoolchildren in 250 municipalities in the Philippines. They engage local governments, socio-civic groups, schools, teachers, parents, and students to work together in upgrading basic education.
Jesse Robredo’s Inspiration on Governance in Education
Secretary Jesse M. Robredo changed mindset, processes and values in the way public education is delivered. He made the system “bottom-up, transparent and participatory”. He emphasized the importance of measuring performance so that schools and public officials can be accountable to the people. He “Reinvented Local School Boards”, expanded their functions, and broadened their membership. He believed that people should be consulted on how budget should be spent. He exacted efficiency and honesty in public spending. He held school summits shocking parents on the poor learning performance of children. At the same time, he challenged them to work with him in providing them with the best education.
I am with my fellow school head like Sir Alejandro Ticao of CAC Malipayon Elem. School and Sir Tracy Hiceta of Haguimit Elem. School II in El Fisher Hotel room 303.
