As far as I know, Mother's Day is a special Sunday dedicated to all mothers introduced by the Americans in early 20th century. And it is later adapted here in the Philippines. It is usually observed every Second Sunday of the month of May.
To recognize mothers in the Church, the La Carlota first branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led by its branch president Jimboy Loreto humbly honored all the member-mothers before the Sunday School classes has started.
Fathers Honoring the Mothers
All fathers and some priesthood holders have formed their line outside the Sunday School classroom with a bunch of beautiful flowers tucked at the back of their trousers. Then, they entered the room one by one, formed a single pile in front of the blackboard. After President Loreto shared a brief message on the importance of a mother and while the members are singing "As I Have Loved You", the fathers proceeded to their respective wife and handed her the flower with a kiss, warm handshake as a humble way of expressing their gratefulness of their wife's love and care for him and for their children.
The Youth's Way of Honoring the Mothers
The youth had their own unique way of greetings every mother of the Church after the Sacrament was administered. They sang the mother's song, and then went to every mother in attendance and gave her a token of chocolate candies in stick and a stick card greetings. As they gave those tokens, they gave a sisterly or brotherly kiss to the mother.
"To: MOM Thank you for loving, caring, sharing, always knowing, listening and being there. WE love you!" This is the message written in stick card given by a young man to my wife.
My Humble Way of Honoring my Children's Mother
Before we came to Church to attend our regular Sunday services, I already greeted my wife with a happy mother's day. Then I gave her a big and warm hug and a sweet kiss of love and gratefulness as a mother of our 6 children.
Late last night I already posted some memorable pictures of my wife to my Facebook account, screenshot from my created video for my wife with a song background, "An Angel To Watch over Me", composed and written by an LDS member Sally DeFord. This song was sung by our returned missionary when he was still serving a mission at Philippines Butuan Mission sometime in 2008.
Mother - Watching Angel
The lyrics of the song reflect the real job of a mother to her children. Followed are the complete lyrics of this song:
"She watched by my cradle
through long, sleepless nights
She taught me to pray as she knelt by my side
She guarded my childhood,
and all through the years
She echoed my laughter, she counted my tears
In the arms of my mother, I came to believe
That God sent an angel to watch over me
She taught me the meaning of courage and faith
She taught me to live with the Lord as my strength
She taught me to follow the pathway he marked
She guided my steps when the journey grew dark
And I know there were dangers that I could not see
But God sent an angel to watch over me
She taught me to serve with a spirit that sings
She taught me to seek after heavenly things
And because of her love and her kindness and care
Because of the place that I hold in her prayers
And because of her goodness, I still believe
That God sent an angel to watch over me"
