Jeffrey P. Ferrer: Working Together in Sports

Working together in sports could be realized by promoting and fostering camaraderie, fellowship, brotherhood, friendliness, and emotional maturity among the participating athletic delegations of the Division of La Carlota.

This is what the ever-supportive congressman Jeffrey P. Ferrer of the 4th district of Negros Occidental has emphasized in his message as read by one of his staff, the former mayor of La Carlota, Demie Honrado at the opening of one-day Athletic  Meet of the Division of La Carlota held recently at the Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School (DHSBNHS) sports oval.

"Although winning the game is an exciting goal for each team, but let us also work together to promote and foster camaraderie, fellowship, brotherhood, friendliness and emotional maturity in accepting defeat," Ferrer said.

He further said that sport is indeed an important undertaking aside from a healthy lifestyle for it also serves as a wholesome alternative to spare young people from developing undesirable habits like addiction to drugs and other vices that destroy their physical, emotional and mental capabilities.

He expressed that the city government of La Carlota and the  4th congressional district are very supportive to sports program. He cited that the district has a lot athletes who represented the province of Negros Occidental and the Region VI in the Palarong Pambansa. He special mentioned Aileen [sic]Tumbali of La Carlota City, who won gold medal in the Palaro.

The Theme

"Honing Skills and Talents; Achieving Laurels Through Sports" is the theme for this one-day La Carlota Division Athletic Meet.

In behalf of La Carlota City mayor, Atty. Juliet Marie D. Ferrer and the wife of Congressman Ferrer, City Councilor Anabelle Bermudo mentioned in her message that the mayor has the vision and mission to make La Carlota a child-friendly city and of these goals is to promote holistic development for children and our students. The mayor believes that physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our children are essential for them to live a well-balanced life.

She concluded by appreciating the young athletes, their coaches, teachers, and most of all the DepEd through the leadership of Dr.Portia M. Mallorca for making sports accessible to those students who love athletics.

Opening Program

Mallorca Opens the Meet

OIC-SDS Portia M. Mallorca with Ms. Mithos Hiponia, EPS-MAPHE and Ms. Ruth Famillaran, Admin Officer V hoisted the Division banner.

Toni Rose Raymundo, Palarong Pambansa Tennis Player led the participating athletes in reciting the Athletes' Oath of Amateurism.

Mr. Severino B. Estrella, National Officiating Official in Baseball led the officiating officials in their Oath of Officiating Officials.

OIC-SDS Mallorca declared the official opening of the meet. While earlier, Mr. Horacio Cabuguason, Division Sports Coordinator presented the the elementary and secondary athletic delegations.

Mr. Denny Castañeda, principal of the host high school gave his words of welcome to the participating delegations which are composed of the District I, District II, and District III for the elementary; and PAX Catholic Academy, La Granja, San Miguel, Balabag Extension, and Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School for the secondary.

Ailyn Tumbali, Palarong Pambansa Athletics Player and gold medalist did the honor in carrying the friendship torch and lighting of the urn.

Some selected faculty of DHSBNHS cheerdancers displayed their best feat in dancing before the closing of the opening program to entertain everyone.
