First time in the Philippine Senate history that an election protest on a contested senatorial race is finally resolved and true people's mandate prevailed.

This is true in the case of Atty. Aquilino Pimentel III who got the 13th place of a Senator in May 2007 senatorial elections against his close rival Senator Jose Miguel Zubiri with more than 20,000 margin of votes.

At long last after contesting the rightful senate seat, Pimentel got it Thursday when Justice Antonio Carpio, head of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) formally proclaimed him as the duly elected Senator and to occupy the contested 12th senatorial seat which for almost 4 years was wrongfully occupied by Senator Jose Miguel Zubiri of Mindanao.

A week earlier, however, Senator Zubiri in his privilege speech in the plenary session of the Senate, tendered his irrevocable resignation from the Senate to save his family, his well-being as a senator from further humiliation due to prevalent poll fraud which later gained credence in which he practically alleged he didn't partake of it or influence it directly or indirectly.

As the winning senator, Pimentel garnered 258,166 votes more than Zubiri in May 14, 2007 Senatorial race in synchronized national and local elections. (Pimentel - 10,898,786 votes; Zubiri's 10,640,620 votes)

By Monday, August 15, Senator Pimentel starts his duty as the 12th duly elected Senator in May 2007 senatorial elections.

Mas vale tarde que nunca!
