Freedom is not hindered by imperfection. This is true. This line of thought has set the tone of the national historical commemoration of the 114th PH Independence in the particular small city of La Carlota this morning.

"I'm not perfect. No one is. But I will not my imperfection hinders of what is good and what is right." served as the guiding maxim to everyone who is attending the separate 114th Philippine Independence celebration in La Carlota city.

This is the proverbial section of the last part of the introduction of Portia M. Mallorca, OIC-schools division superintendent of La Carlota as the speaker as read by Lady Florence B. Poblete who introduced her.

La Carlota High School Alumni: 'This Is Our Day'

More than thousand of alumni of La Carlota High School/La Carlota City High School/Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School gathered in their 65th general alumni homecoming this day.

This momentous homecoming dwells on its theme: "Lakas at Pagmamahal ng Alumni" (Strength and Love of the Alumni).

Alumni of Class 1970

Sixty-seven members of Class 1970 led by their President Christine Layson-Guerra participated in the morning street parade and stayed in one of the rooms near the gate entrance of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, the recent name of La Carlota City High School.

Class 1951 was the earliest alumni participated in and the recent was class 2010 attended the whole day homecoming.

A motorcade started off the whole day affair and a short opening program formally commenced the said activity.

K to 12: 'Let's Do it!'

The Division of La Carlota prepares the Grade One teachers of the 24 elementary schools here for the implementation of K to 12 curriculum for this school year 2012 - 2013 in 5-day seminar-workshop at the conference hall of the said division.

"We're the only chosen few. Let's do it!"

Portia M. Mallorca, officer-in-charge of the Division of La Carlota challenged the 62 grade one teachers during their 5-day seminar-workshop on K to 12 curriculum implementation culmination program.

"Five days of training are not enough for you. You can do more. I know you can do it. I have the confidence to all of you," strongly expressed Ma'm Mallorca.

Protecting a Child a Priority?

Protecting the child is still a priority in the PH for child abuse in various incidences still exists.

Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Alberto T. Muyot for legal and legislative affairs presented the following statistics on the status of child abuse and related complaints on child protection in 13 regions of the country:

Along this situation, in our 2nd management committee (MANCOM) meeting, La Carlota Portia M. Mallorca, officer-in-charge, assistant schools division superintendent informed us, all the school heads, both the elementary and the high school of the Division that DepEd Armin Luistro signed the pledge of commitment on the child protection policy.

K-12 Education Curriculum Rolls Out SY 2012-2013

The Department of Education (DepED) issued an order to effectively implement the rolling out of Grades 1 and 7 under the K to 12 Basic Curriculum (BEC) starting this school year 2012 - 2013.

Expected Outcomes

Under this K to 12 curriculum, at the end of Grade 10, the students are expected to:

• demonstrate communicative competence
• think intelligently, critically and creatively in life situations
• make informed and values-based decisions
• perform their civic duties
• use resources sustainably, and
• participate actively in artistic and cultural activities and in the promotion of wellness and lifelong fitness.
