Reading a 36-Year Old Mail

What a feeling reading a 36-year old mail! I remember that after 4 months of my baptism in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the person who baptized me on April 20, 1980 sent me a postal mail which I was able to keep for 36 years for safekeeping and I was able to find it inside an envelope. I open it and read.

It reads (unedited):

It’s really nice to received [sic] a letters from the people whom you loved. I’m very excited upon reading your letter.

Well, as of now I’m very busy in my Church calling, I got e position ward magazine representative, secretary in single adult which is the hardest things first you can do… But I know the Lord with help me and the third is the Stake Missionary (part time only). We had lot’s of referral and we just only sustained last night. In our stake there’s no full time missionary and we are the one doing the missionary work, that’s our RESPONSIBILITIES…

Next semester, I will continue my studies as 3rd year BSIE. Last two weeks ago I started a job in the EDUCATION MEDIUM EXCHANGE as EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT. I enjoyed my work and I really used all the things that I’ve learned in MISSION FIELD.

iT’S REALLY NICE to HEARD [sic] a word from you and to know that you are SUPER ACTIVE in the CHURCH. Just alway’s [sic] REMEMBER that THERE IS SOMEONE CARES AND LOVES YOU…

STAY CLOSE for the CHURCH and ALWAYS REMEMBER the PROMISES that you HAVE BEFORE your BAPTISM.

BYE-BYE and KEEP UP the GOOD WORK. STAY CLOSE to the CHURCH.

“KEEP on SMILING”

love

ARTHUR

(TALL’n THIN NO!)

P.S.

As of now wala po akong copy ng BAPTISM ni GREG…
I think naibag ko na po, kasi wala po sa collection ko… Just tell me lang kong wala po and I will just send it… Regards to EVERYONE…

This letter was written by Arturo A. Tolentino, a former full-time missionary who was assigned in our place and after a week-long Gospel lesson about the Church, about the Prophets and about the ancient scriptures, The Book of Mormon, I decided to be baptized in the Church.

Our memories of good old days have been unfolded and everything seems to be fresh. It’s a flashback of 36–year Church activities, teaching and proselyting, and baptism.
