Misunderstood Christmas

Christmas Season is one of the joyous time of the year. Everyone has almost celebrated Christmas in their own way. But others who are least in life aren't experiencing what is Christmas all about.

We know that the Birth of Jesus was foretold by the Prophets of old as it is written in the Book of Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

And it is in the New Testament particularly in the books of Mathew, Luke, and John who told the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem from a virgin as what foretold by Isaiah 7:14 that says that the Lord himself will give a sign that the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son.

Christmas in our Hearts

Since Jesus' birth several centuries ago, Christmas has already implanted in the hearts of those who believe God. Every year they celebrate it as renewal of their commitment of faith that Jesus is born for them as sinners. He is their Savior and Redeemer.

What about you? How do you relate yourself to the birth of Jesus? Gift-giving doesn't in the truest sense mean Christmas. It is God the Father Himself who gave Jesus Christ for us because of His unfeigned love. He wants to be like Him by following the teachings of Jesus and to live with Him by enjoying the Eternal Life.

This is a commitment which is clearly and without any exception stated in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” This means we should be consistent in following the teachings and commandments of God without reservation. I relating it here as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is also the 25th way of 25 days our members of the Church is doing in #LightWorld as their concluding calendar of activities till December 25.

What is Christmas?

This is what is Christmas for me. I may interpret or express Christmas an acrostic.

C is for compassion we do to those who are neglected, sullen, downtrodden, and despondent.
H is for humility as exemplified by Jesus Himself for he is like dumb-driven cattle, never ever complain.
R is reassurance that we as sinners have still the hope that we can be saved by the birth of Jesus who is our Savior and a Redeemer.
I is integrity that everyone should possess to make himself approved before God.
S is sincerity of words, thoughts, and actions that manifest that we truly following Jesus' teachings and commandments.
T is trust which is a virtue that brings the uncertainty into a reality of reliability.
M is music like the Christmas carols which form like prayer to our Heavenly Father.
A is acceptance that Jesus is the Son of God through our unwavering faith.
S is service to others for it is just like that we are serving the Lord in doing so.

Christmas is not per se a gift-giving or gift-receiving but it is a Gospel in action in serving our brothers and sisters in Christ who have least in life. And Christ Himself has shown this how by example.

Couldn't do it too? Let this Christmas be and it should be.
