"Achieving Excellence Through Sports" is this year's theme of the Division Meet of La Carlota City as it formally opens up by a street parade, declaration of oath of amateurism, among others. Selected athletes in three districts in the elementary level and another selected athletes in the secondary level in public and private schools participated in this 3-day meet.
La Carlota Mayor Luis "Jacky" Jalandoni III in his message stressed that sports development program is one of his top priorities. He wanted that there would be a new generation of competent athletes, making sports a glorious vocation. He expected that every athlete would participate in the game enthusiastically. Thus camaraderie and sportsmanship may be enjoyed. He further said that defeat and victory have their own role as far as sports competition is concerned. In defeat, the athletes are "striving more" while in victory they are made aware not to be fallen.

"One of the top priorities of the city government under my leadership is to broaden the sports development program, because we've continually aspiring to produce home-grown young and promising athletes who will dominate the international sports arena in the near future.
"We have heard of the outstanding performances of our local players in tennis, boxing, track and field, athletics, and arnis. And I learned that many of them were able to study in many prestigious colleges as varsity players, and opportunities were just knocking at their doors.
"I was also a recipient of the sports scholarship program as a former varsity football player. They are in the right tract towards success and honor. For many times we have witnessed how Manny Pacquiao has brought glory to our country and how he has been useful to his fellowmen. The city government desires to produce new generation of competent athletes that will make a difference in their lives; that will prove us that indeed, to be in sports and to excel in sports is a glorious vocation.
"Hopefully through the yearly Division Meet, we can continually discover potential athletes in different sports discipline who will successfully excel in the higher level competition.
"Let me emphasize, however, that the purpose of this athletic meet is not just to discover best athlete. We are also looking for physically fit and mentally prudent athletes that will live out the theme, "Achieving Excellence Through Sports." Sound mind, sound body, so to say. The Division Meet also brings in the sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship which are the most enjoying virtues of the game.
"To our aspiring players, take this athletic meet as a chance to evaluate your kinetic intelligence and value the real essence of sportsmanship.
"Finally, I encourage you to play fairly. I know that each one of you aspires to win the game. But I want you to learn that defeat has its own beauty - It will teach you to strive more; while victory must each you to keep; your feelt on the ground, lest you fall. Bear in mind that central to this sports competition, is your enthusiastic participation."
