Starting the Journey at Caiñaman Elementary School as a Teacher, School Head

I finished my college degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) in 1985 in La Carlota City College with flying colors. I took the Licensure Examinations for Teachers (LET) in the following year and I passed. I just kept it and didn't apply for a teaching job for I had already a job in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) as a custodian. No plan to teach yet.

Five years later, The Church announced that all custodian position in the Church would be phased out. So I had not choice but I was compelled to apply in the Division Office for a teaching profession. I had prepared an application letter and submitted it to the Division Office.

The applicants were ranked after they underwent the process of hiring them. And I was in the number one rank in the post. Mr. Vicente Mental, the former teacher of my youngest son, Gilbor, Jr. came over to our house early in the morning and told me that Mr. Montaño, the Schools Division Superintendent wanted to talk to me regarding my teaching application. The interview didn't take long. Mr. Montaño advised me to tender my resignation to The Church and I would start teaching in Cainaman Elementary School. I didn't complete my last one year job in the Church. I submitted my resignation paper and the Church approved it.

In June 18, 1991, my appointment as a teacher 1 was approved. It was no surprise then that Sir Mental was the school head of  Caiñaman Elementary School, one of the small elementary schools in the Division of La Carlota City. I joined the other 6 teachers in the said school. My co-teachers were Mrs. Susana Nabor, Grade 1; Mrs. Ninfa Ganza, Grade 2; Mrs. Nelly Salvacion, Grade 3, Mrs. Pacita Gonzales, Grade 4; Mrs. Girlie Carrera, Grade 5; and Mrs. Teresita Montales, Grade 6.

I handled the elementary agriculture and industrial arts for grades 5 and 6. I taught English 5, HEKASI (Social Studies) 5 and 6; elementary math 5 and 6, and Music, Arts and PE for 5 and 6. My additional load assignment was school property custodian, Boy Scout school coordinator, and school paper adviser of Caiñaman Journal, the official organ of the school.

I stayed in the school for 6 years and I was transferred to the central school, La Carlota Elementary School I in 1997. I taught the same subjects with no additional auxiliary assignment. Then in 2000, I was promoted to head teacher and I was assigned back to Caiñaman Elementary School to replace Sir Mental who retired from the service. And in 2004, I was promoted to School Principal and was transferred to Salamanca Elementary School as my second school of assignment.

The only consolation I have had in my first school is an amateur video I have made to recollect my good moments in the said school.

Comes next to be featured is Salamanca Elementary School as my second school assignment and as my first school assignment as a school principal. The school is under District II being supervised by Mr. Aquino I. Torrefranca, active Boy Scout trainor. He is now retired.
