Individuals and Teams (Day 47)

Working in the Department of Education is a real privilege and honor. One gets the opportunity to make a difference in a big way to millions of learners, hundreds of thousands of teachers, thousands of schools and communities, and to the whole country.

It is also a privilege because of the men and women I got to work with for the last six years. They include a mix of people who have served the Department for decades and those who joined only during our term. Both sets of employees contribute towards a shared vision. No task was too small or too big.

To all of you -- Everything that you gave borne out of genuine service was incredibly important and valuable. Each one of you brought a set of skills, knowledge, competencies and values to the organization. Combining all of these allowed us to achieve our goals, face challenges, overcome issues, and deliver results.


I had the privilege of directly leading many teams at different points of my term – the Communications Unit, Technical Service, Adopt-a-School Program, ICT Service, Research and Statistics Division and Database Management Unit, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service, ICT Service, Internal Audit Service, Office of the Secretary, Regional Operations, PFSED/Engineering and Facilities Division, and the whole Finance and Administration strand. I want to thank all of you. Of course, I also want to make special mention of those who work quietly and support me - drivers, staff, utility personnel. You do work without any fanfare.

If I am unable to mention you all individually, it is only as a result of my limited memory but it does not diminish my gratitude and appreciation. You are not nameless and faceless to me.

I can honestly say, I (and many others) would not have survived all these years without you. You who make the bureaucracy are part of the success we reap. When the whole Department of Education performs and moves as one organization, it is pretty hard to stop.
