Is PNoy Accountable for the Fate of 44 SAF?

January 25 marked the end of 44 Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police (PNP) after they're ambushed and brutally killed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

This fateful day of those policemen commandos who were ordered by the PNP higher command to serve the warrant of arrest to Malaysian terrorist, Zulkifli Abdhir, aka Marwan, stirred national chaos among Filipinos not only the family of those 44 fallen SAF members but the entire Filipino.

Finger-pointing is the status mood among the stern antogonists of the President of the country. Reacting impulsively on the gruesome killing of 44 policemen who came mostly from Cordillera Region, these protesters wanted PNoy to resign. It is also perpetuated by Makabayan Partylist in the House of Representatives.

Letting the country's chief executive to give up his post because of brutal killing of 44 SAF of PNP could be given justice?

'No Peace without Justice'

The House of Representatives which is concurrently undergoing a hearing of Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) shows concern on the brutal killing of 44 SAF members on January 25 at Mamasapano, Maguindanao. Thru its chairman, Representative Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro wants to charge those responsible Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members for multiple murder cases.

Without justice, there is no peace - an implication from the recent bloodbath of those SAF members as expressed by Rep. Rodriguez.

Aquino Betrayal?

Did President  Aquino betray the fallen SAF members or even the Filipino? An opinion writer of the national paper wrote that the President had deceived the people. It is of remote circumstance that the entire operation couldn't be controlled or even monitored by the White House. Everything is in "remote control". Thus, it eventually resulted to lost of dignity and nobody could bring it back, except the President.

Truth Commission

Creating a truth commission to investigate the gruesome killing of 44 SAF members is of great importance. This is also to seek and to pinpoint who is really accountable and to answer the crime committed? Be it the MILF? The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters? Or even PNoy himself and his cohorts?

By the way, which is which? Be held accountable or resignation for PNoy? No one is going to dare to come out in the open and pinpoint the mastermind for this bloodbath of 44 policemen, except the President who is allegedly held by those survivors of the victims.

  1. Filipinos are very emotional in nature especially for their families. Military operation have some confidentiality which common people do not know about. Families of the Fallen 44 did not even know their mission in Mindanao, but they know the job of the military. They have no right to blame the President for inconsistency of the military maneuvering in Mamasapano.

  2. That's the very nature of military. Confidentiality is no joke. Raising an accusing finger to the President won't give justice to the unfortunate slain 44 elite members of SAF.

  3. I think they should investigate first before accusing. People are just carried by their emotion and they should just be patient and be more rational. We can't ask the president to resign after something wrong happens.

  4. I believe on a fair investigation since this is a big issue and a lot of lives were lost due to this. I cannot really answer the question as I really have no clue about the real motive of this operation.

  8. I think no one was blaming the president for their deaths UNTIL it was known that he let his suspended police chief (someone who doesn't even have any experience in Mindanao) to run the show. People look up to him because of his matuwid na daan, so many were disappointed to learn that even the president himself is not above rule-bending when it suits him.

The president's choice to grace the car plant inauguration instead of receiving the #Fallen44 didn't help too. It showed lack of empathy for his men especially since he was the one who called for a Day of National Mourning.

The media is also not helping, especially with reports/speculations that the president ordered AFP and SAF not to send in reinforcements. So, naturally, most people are furious!

Personally, I don't expect the president to be perfect. Operations like this are a gamble, a calculated risk: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I just expected him to man up and admit his involvement in the decision-making. The Mamasapano massacre is already too devastating, but I find the apparent washing of hands to be even more infuriating. Still, no need for the president to step down because of this.

But I agree, let's wait for the investigations (8!) to unearth the truth and hopefully justice would be served.
