Inter-Agency Synergy for Resilience

Inter-Agency Synergy for Resilience (Day 37)

by Rey Laguda

(This is the  37th day of 50-day journey of DepEd Undersecretary Rey Laguda as being serialized here with his permission, culled from his Facebook account - Blogger/owner

Yesterday, I attended the last meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council under this current administration. In the last several years, I witnessed how government agencies worked together towards common goals and objectives. I salute the leadership of Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and Usec Alexander Pama for their unwavering commitment to the nation.

The clusters were lead by DILG, DSWD, DOST and NEDA. DepEd embraced its role as a member of the different clusters - preparedness, response and recovery. The AFP and PNP, Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fire Protection were always there to provide logistical support and lead rescue efforts.

Government agencies put in the effort to help make the country more resilient and ready, address needs during disasters and to build back better lives and communities. Through many sleepless nights, long hours, and perilous trips - people just worked until the job got done. They knew what sense of duty was about.

We cannot fail to mention that civil society organizations, businesses, media and volunteer groups came together build national capacity for risk reduction and management.

Teamwork. Service. Duty. Leadership.

Thank you to the men and women of government who keep us safe and prepared. I may not name you one by one but you know who you are. Mabuhay kayo.
