With the introduction of K to 12 curriculum, the Department of Education (DepEd) has issued guidelines to be followed in the selection of honor pupils in the elementary level especially the grade six pupils. These guidelines were already implemented in school year 2012-2013 for Grades 1 and 7.
DepEd Order No. 74, s. 2012 stipulates the procedure on selecting the qualified grade six pupils on their academic performance and on their extra-curricular activities participated in.
System of Ranking
The top ten pupils/students are ranked based on 7-3 point scheme in which 7 points for academic performance and 3 points for co-curricular activities.
On Academic
In the academic, 7 points are assigned on the following criteria:
a. Final grade of each learning area
b. Average of grades of all learning areas to three decimal places
c. Average ranking
d. Ranking by 7 points
On Extra-Curricular
The co-curricular performance of the pupils is based on the procedure of DepEd Order No. 23, s. 2012.
And 3% for extra-curricular on the following activities:
a. Certified co-curricular achievements
b. Validated co=curricular achievements
c. Classified valid co-curricular achievements
d. Ranking candidates from highest to lowest total points
e. Weighted rank (multiplied by 3)
Authorized activities may include the following:
1. Official contest and competitions recognized by DepEd
2. Student leadership like SPG and SSG
3. Campus Journalism
4. Officership and membership in DepEd recognized organization
5. Participation or attendance in DepEd recognized seminar, camp, training, etc.
